Pre-School & Kindergarten

Corkran Preschool began as a kindergarten in 1955, by Mrs. Katherine Dobbie, and was one of the very first Kindergarten programs in Prince George's County. Since that time, the program has grown and expanded to inlcude two, three, and four year old children. Additionally, Before & After Care and Lunch Bunch are also available on class days for three year olds and up.

Corkran Preschool provides a rich, satisfying, and constructive "first" school experience. We believe a child's self-confidence and positive self-worth is best developed in a warm and caring environment where children are encouraged to think for themselves and solve problems according to their individual developmental level and ability.

Classes & Schedules:

Our two year old classes meet two and three mornings per week (Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday) from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and have three teachers per class with a maximum of 12 children per class.
Our three year old classes meet two and three mornings per week (Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday) from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and have two teachers per class with a maximum of 16 children per class.
Our four year old classes meet three mornings (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) and five mornings per week from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and have two teachers per class with a maximum of 20 children per class.
Our kindergartners (five year olds) meet five days per week from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.and have two teachers per class with a maximum of 20 children per class.

Pre-School Curriculum: Each week the pre-schoolers are exposed to:

Reading readiness skills
Math readiness skills
A new social studies or science unit
Circle Time
Related crafts using various media
Pull-out motor development
Pull-out music
Chapel (once per month)
Outside play (in an enclosed, safe environment)

Kindergarten Curriculum: Each week the kindergartners are exposed to:

Language Arts
Reading and reading groups
Phonics
Mathematics
Geography
Science
Social Studies
Arts and crafts
Pull-out motor development (two times per week)
Pull-out music (two times per week)
Chapel (once per month)
Outside play (in an enclosed, safe environment)
